Delhi Capitals ended their TATA IPL 2025 campaign on a high with a commanding six-wicket win over Punjab Kings in Match No. 66, courtesy of a sensational maiden half-century by Sameer Rizvi and all-round contributions across departments. While DC bowed out of the tournament with seven wins from 14 games, Punjab Kings, already assured of a playoff berth, will now eye a Top 2 finish in their final league match against Mumbai Indians.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, DC skipper Faf du Plessis saw his bowlers strike early. In-form opener Priyansh Arya was the first to depart, falling in the second over to Mustafizur Rahman. Tristan Stubbs, donning the wicketkeeping gloves, pulled off a sharp catch to send Arya back.

Despite the early blow, Prabhsimran Singh and Josh Inglis counter-attacked effectively. They kept the scoreboard ticking and put the pressure back on DC’s bowlers. Inglis showcased his aggressive intent by smashing a six and a four off Vipraj Nigam in the final over of the powerplay, but Nigam had the last laugh, removing Inglis via a sharp stumping from Stubbs. Vipraj struck again in the eighth over, this time bowling Prabhsimran as Punjab began to lose momentum with wickets falling at regular intervals. However, captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings smartly with a composed 53 off 34 balls, holding the innings together even as others fell around him. But the real fireworks came from Marcus Stoinis. The Australian all-rounder unleashed a brutal assault at the death, hammering an unbeaten 44 off just 16 balls at a strike rate of 275. His late blitz propelled PBKS to a competitive 206/8, continuing their trend of high scores this season. In fact, this marked their seventh 200-plus total of the season.

Mustafizur Rahman finished with figures of 3/33, while the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam bagged two wickets apiece to restrict PBKS from posting an even bigger total.

Chasing a stiff target of 208, DC began cautiously. Impact Player KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis negotiated the opening overs with caution, putting up 22 runs in the first three overs. The fourth over saw a change in gear as Azmatullah Omarzai was taken for 15 runs, followed by 13 more off Harpreet Brar in the next.

However, just like PBKS, DC lost a wicket in the last over of the powerplay. Marco Jansen dismissed Rahul, and Brar followed it up by removing du Plessis in the very next over. At 66/2 after seven overs, the chase could have gone either way. On TATA IPL debut, Afghanistan youngster Sediqullah Atal played a handy cameo of 22 from 15 balls before falling to Pravin Dubey at the start of the 11th over. But Karun Nair turned that over around, striking four boundaries to inject momentum into the chase. Nair, in tandem with Sameer Rizvi, steadied the innings and stitched a crucial 50-run stand in just 24 deliveries. At the 14-over mark, DC were 146/3, needing 61 off the last six overs.

Just after the timeout, Harpreet Brar struck again to remove a well-set Nair for 44 (27), bringing Tristan Stubbs to the crease. With 34 required off the final 18 balls, Rizvi took control. He launched Arshdeep Singh for a six early in the 18th over, reaching his maiden TATA IPL half-century in just 22 balls.

The pair scored 14 runs in that over, leaving only eight needed from the final six balls. Rizvi fittingly finished things off with a towering six on the third ball of the final over, sealing a memorable victory for DC with three balls to spare. Rizvi remained unbeaten on a match-winning 58 off just 25 deliveries and was deservedly named the Player of the Match.

While Delhi Capitals finish their season with seven wins from 14 matches, having started with five wins in six but fading mid-season, this win offers a positive end to their campaign. For Punjab Kings, who now have 17 points from 13 games and sit second on the table, a win in their final league game against Mumbai Indians could secure them a coveted Top 2 finish heading into the playoffs.
