TATA IPL 2025 Match 57, KKR vs CSK - Match Report
07 May, 2025
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a gripping two-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 57 of the TATA IPL 2025 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Batting first, the Knight Riders posted 179 for 6, which looked enough on a tacky surface, but CSK dug deep to pick up two points in a season already lost to them, while KKR saw their top-four ambitions take a dent.

Chasing 180, CSK lost Ayush Mhatre for a two-ball duck in the very first over before Conway too departed on a duck without troubling the bowlers, leaving the chase in a balance just when it looked to have begun.
Urvil Patel, the debutant, attacked with gleeful abandon, scoring 31 off 11 balls, but KKR kept striking, leaving CSK at 60/5. But just when it looked like the home team had completely taken upper hand, Dewald Brevis took centre stage, creating fireworks by smashing Vaibhav Arora for three fours and three sixes and in process brining up a 22-ball half-century turning the tides to bring the game back into into a balance with the equation coming down to 57 off 54.

Seven balls later, KKR opened up the window of opportunity for themselves as Varun Chakravarthy got rid of the dangerous-looking Brevis, but Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni conjured one last push, running hard between the wickets and finding the timely boundaries.

Chennai needing 18 from 12 started the over strong, but KKR struck again, getting rid of Dube (45 off 40) and Noor Ahmad in quick succession, leaving Chennai requiring eight from the final over with just two wickets in hand. The crowd finally got to see vintage Dhoni hitting a six in the first ball of the final over, thus sealing the game in CSK's favour.

Earlier in the match, Ajinkya Rahane’s patient knock of 48 and late flourishes from Andre Russell (38 off 21) and Manish Pandey (36 off 28) propelled them to 179. For Chennai, their spinners, led by Noor Ahmad, who finished with four wickets, slowed down the opposition, keeping them at a score that their batters could chase down.

Despite this victory, CSK remain at the bottom of the points table with six points from 12 matches. KKR, meanwhile, remain in contention for a possible top-four finish with 11 points, though this defeat puts a dent in their chances as the playoff race intensifies.
